Bombay High Court gets two new judges; working strength rises to 57

The judges who took oath are:

Urmila Sachin Joshi-Phalke; and

Bharat Pandurang Deshpande.

The Supreme Court had first recommended their names for elevation to High Court in September 2021. The Central government had returned their files but the Collegium had reiterated its recommendation on February 1 this year.

The Central government then notified their appointment on June 3.

With their appointment, the vacancies in the Bombay High Court have come down to 35. The High Court has a sanctioned strength of 94.
