Life of courage- Adv. Vijay Palekar
The High Court Bar Association expresses its condolences at the untimely death of Adv. Vijay Palekar. Vijay was an active member of the High Court Bar at Goa and a regular practitioner of writs, service petitions, and labour cases.
Vijay rose from his humble background to set up a successful law practice with sheer hard work. His recent success in a service petition where he got the appointment of 32 assistant data entry operators in the electricity department set aside, as the selection criteria was changed by the government after the declaration of results of the written test to give “exaggerated” weightage to the oral interview, was widely reported and bears a shining example to his legal acumen. He also did a tremendous amount of pro bono legal work to help weaker sections of the society.
Vijay in his initial days joined the chamber of Adv Girish Sardesai, whose mentorship immensely contributed to Vijay’s professional success.
He was popular among fellow advocates due to his jovial personality and friendly nature. One other aspect of his life that just cannot be missed was his focus on physical fitness.
His tragic death along with that of his niece is a rude shock to our bar. That he bravely laid down his life trying to save her, increases our respect for him manifold.
We hope and pray that his soul attains moksha. Om Shanti. 🙏🏼
